Dr. James K. Smith graduated Magna Cum Laude from West Virginia University where he also completed his medical school training. He then completed both a General Surgery residency and a Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh in 1989. Upon entering practice, he accepted an active clinical faculty teaching position at the University of Pittsburgh.

Not only certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, he is also a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons, The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, The Ohio Valley Society of Plastic Surgeons, The Ivy Society (the Pennsylvania State Plastic Surgery Society), the Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons and numerous other surgical and medical organizations. His award winning clinical and basic science work has been presented at local, regional and national conferences.
